Amarillo Fire Department Shows Off New Truck

The Amarillo Fire Department has taken to social media to show off their new truck.

The Type III Wildland Fire Engine was recently awarded to the department from Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS). TIFMAS assists fire departments by providing vehicles, training, and with firefighting equipment.

Departments awarded TIFMAS trucks are allowed to use the apparatus for local emergency events, as well as assist with incidents within the Texas.

Firefighters are now getting trained on the truck to be able to use it in the field soon.

Facts: To be classified as a Type III Fire Engine:

  • Minimum pump capacity of 150 GPM
  • 500 gallon water tank
  • 500 feet of 1 1/2" hose
  • 500 feet of 1" hose
  • Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) generally >26,000 lbs.
  • Minimum crew of 3 firefighters
