One Amarillo College project will receive a big award. The Living Independently Through Education Lunch at Amarillo College, benefitting students with disabilites, will receive the Martha Arbuckle Award for a Local Community Project.
The annual lunch is put on by Amarillo College Disability Services and the Panhandle Coalition for Transition Services. The LITE lunch has provided $225,000 in scholarships to disabled Amarillo College students since 2002.
The LITE luncheon aims to make higher education a reality for disabled students.
This award is given by the Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities. It will be awarded to Amarillo College at a ceremony in Waco.
