Amarillo, Texas - AMARILLO -- One investigation into Amarillo's Animal Control Department is complete and another is getting close to wrapping up.
The case is expected to be presented to a Randall County grand jury in two weeks.
The Randall County District Attorney's Office says the police investigation is complete. But, their own investigation continues.
The DA's office thought both investigations were complete. However, they continue to receive further information about the case from potential witnesses.
The grand jury meets again on Wednesday May 14th and that's when they're expected to receive the case.
They'll have to determine if criminal charges should be filed regarding alleged improper euthanasia practices at the shelter.
First Assistant District Attorney Robert Love says the police investigation was completed last week but, they had to keep their's open.
Love says they also issued subpoenas this morning for further evidence.
The interim president of the Amarillo-Panhandle Humane Society this week claimed animal control was exposing employees to potential criminal charges because of their improper euthanasia practices.
Animal Control's Director and Assistant Director remain on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations.
