AMARILLO -- Amarillo ISD is honoring 53 seniors who achieved the honor of being an eight-semester Superintendents Scholars at a luncheon today.
The students will receive a plaque and graduation cord for earning the status of being a Superintendents Scholars for every semester of their high school career.
More than 600 high school students will be in attendance at the luncheon as two-semester scholars, which is a 15% increase this year in the number of students in the district who have received the honor.
To be a two-semester Superintendents Scholar, a student must maintain a 95 average in 5 classes (4 for seniors) for both semesters.
The eight-semester senior scholars have maintained a 95 average in 4 or 5 of their classes every semester of high school.
Superintendent Rod Schroder explained, "Earning the Superintendents Scholars status is certainly an achievement for one semester, but to maintain that level of academic focus all for four years of high school is truly a distinction. These seniors have shown remarkable discipline and are on a path for future success."
