AgriLife Extension To Host Tomato, Pepper Workshop May 8 In Amarillo


AMARILLO – A “Growing Tomatoes and Peppers” workshop will be hosted at 6:30 p.m. May 8 by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Potter County at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center, 6500 W. Amarillo Blvd.

“This should be a great program covering the full gamut of how to raise tomatoes and peppers,” said Nathan Carr, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Potter County. “We will go from germination to canning. We have a great line-up of speakers for the event who are familiar with gardening in the Texas Panhandle and the challenges it presents.

Dr. Russ Wallace, AgriLife Extension vegetable specialist from Lubbock, will be discussing the growing practices for tomatoes and peppers.

Potter County Master Gardeners will be talking about different types of gardens and how to prepare them.

Amy Wagner, AgriLife Extension family and consumer sciences agent in Potter County, will focus on canning and preserving the harvest.

Cost is $15, and those planning to attend should preregister by May 6 to the AgriLife Extension office at 806-373-0713 for planning purposes. Registration also will be accepted at the door. Checks should be made payable to Potter FCS and can be mailed to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, 3301 E. 10th Ave., Amarillo, TX 79104.

One Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education unit in integrated pest management will be provided for private pesticide applicators.
