Starting October 1st, Aetna insurance will no longer be accepted at Baptist-Saint Anthony's hospital.
That also applies to several affiliated BSA hospitals as well.
BSA and Aetna had been in negotiations for more than a year, but, failed to reach an agreement on a new deal.
Along with BSA hospital, Aetna insurance will not be accepted at the Harrington Cancer Center; Panhandle Surgical Hospital; Quail Creek Surgical Hospital; Advanced Imaging Center of Amarillo and ADC Endoscopic Center.
An Aetna spokesperson had this to say about the negotiations; "We remain hopeful that BSA will resume negotiations and that we will be able to reach an agreement that is reasonable for both Aetna and the health system. If not, they will terminate from our network on 10-01-2014."
Aetna says their primary responsibilities to their customers and members are to help control the rising cost of healthcare and they felt like they could not protect them from unnecessary costs with BSA.
Aetna says they will continue negotiating with BSA but, says members can still receive services from other in-networks providers and facilities in the area.
