CANADIAN -- The Pickens-Abraham Foundation announced plans to again distribute $100,000 to an organization providing scholarships for Texas Panhandle high school graduates of Miami High School and Canadian High School
This brings the total amount distributed to the areas youth over the past six years by the Foundation to three quarters of a million dollars.
The Foundation is distributing $100,000 to the Opportunity Plan Inc. Educational Loans and Scholarships (OPI) in Canyon.
"Boones commitment and generosity toward improving the quality of education in our area has been amazing," Salem Abraham says. "I appreciate my friendship with Boone, and have enjoyed working with him through the Pickens-Abraham Foundation. Boone, Ruth Ann, and I all love this area, and we know by giving kids more opportunities we help the future of Hemphill and Roberts counties."
The gift will provide renewable scholarships of $3,000 per semester to assist students with paying for college expenses. Local students are encouraged to complete the General Scholarship Application on OPIs website to be considered. Applications are due by May 1st.
