U.S. Senator Tom Udall to visit Roosevelt, Curry, De Baca and Guadalupe Counties
By Karl Wehmhoener | email@example.com
PORTALES -- U.S. Senator Tom Udall will be in Eastern New Mexico to discuss rural development, veterans, agriculture and energy issues.
On Tuesday, Udall will travel to Portales where he will meet with Dr. Darron Smith of the Eastern New Mexico University Agriculture Department. Through Udalls efforts, Smith received funding in 2009 for research on renewable algae biofuel and algae feed for cattle, which could have economic benefits for New Mexicos rancher and dairy communities.
Following the meeting, Udall will attend a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of his Eastside office, his fifth field office in New Mexico. The Eastside office serves Colfax, Curry, De Baca, Harding, Quay, Roosevelt and Union counties.
On Wednesday, Udall will be in Clovis area where he will tour the Clovis veterans community based outpatient clinic (CBOC) and discuss veterans' care and the concerns of rural veterans regarding transportation to the VA Medical Center in Amarillo, TX.
Next, he will be at Cannon Air Force Base to meet with its new commander, Colonel Tony Bauernfeind, and talk about his work on the Senate Appropriations Committee to support Cannon AFBs mission and its military service members and their families. Please contact Udall's press office for more information.
From there, Udall will travel to Fort Sumner to meet with the Fort Sumner Irrigation District about his legislation to transfer the title for water works on the Pecos River from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to the Fort Sumner Irrigation District.
On Thursday, Udall will deliver the keynote address at a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of a dental clinic in Guadalupe County. In 2010, the community received a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and a low-interest loan from the USDA Rural Development program, which Udall has long supported. Udall is a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture and Rural Development.
