Arrington is a former Vice Chancellor at Texas Tech, and also served as an adviser for President George W. Bush while he was the Texas Governor.
He's also from Plainview, and went to Texas Tech University, and he said his West Texas roots run deep. "I'm not running against somebody, I'm running for West Texas, I'm running for keeping West Texas strong and prosperous and tackling the big issues, the statewide issues," Arrington said.
"I love this community, but this seat, it represents an entire region, 51 counties, and it's important for me to get to know the people in the counties and in this district," Arrington said.
Representative Perry has served in the State House of Representatives, serving District 83, since 2010, including serving on the appropriations committee.
"There's nothing that the 51 counties aren't connected by, through some means of that, so it's fairly non-diverse, but the values out here, people are of the same values," Perry said.
No date has been set yet for the special election by Governor Rick Perry, though there is speculation it will likely be on the November ballot.
