Leeper, majoring in Mass Communications-Broadcasting with a minor in Spanish, still carries a perfect 4.00 GPA with 104 total credit hours as only a junior.
“I am really proud of the guys the way we came out here today,” WT head coach Eric Moore said. “We really tried to be aggressive and it unfortunately didn’t work out for us like we had hoped. Really the first round killed us and we weren’t able to recover from it.”
Renee Erwin and Lacey Taylor were named NFCA 1st Team selections while Stacey Ramirez and Allie Smith were named to the association’s 3rd team.
The Buffs are coming off of the program’s first ever Lone Star Conference Championship and their second straight appearance in the NCAA Postseason.
The Buffs have a 36-hole score of 604 and dropped 20 strokes from Monday’s round to Tuesdays and currently sit 17th.
Twelve women and 12 men will represent the maroon WT at nationals this weekend. Those athletes will do so in 19 separate events, as three relays made the cut, two from the women’s side, along with several individuals in multiple events.
Following its first Lone Star Conference co-regular season baseball championship and second-consecutive NCAA regional appearance, the West Texas A&M baseball team had a number of players earn postseason accolades.
West Texas A&M junior Glory Jangthongsiri earned Women’s Golf Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-America honors. This is her second all-America honor of her career as she was a second team honoree last season.
The Buffs are 20th after the first round and will tee off Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. ET.

Due to a lower dropped score, the Buffs earned the No. 3-seed in the medal match play and faced off with No. 2-seed Cameron for the second round Monday on the par 72, 7,100-yard Frisco Lakes Golf Club.
